BirdMan Jumpsuit
From SandM
The Birdman suit is a recent invention in skydiving.
The Birdman suit has wide flaps of material between the arms and the waist and between the legs. This extra material creates a lot of air resistance. The terminal velocity of a skydiver wearing a BirdMan suit is often as low as 40 knots.
This extra material is shaped to approximate an airfoil. When the skydiver configures the body into a track, the forward velocity produces lift as the air flows over these shaped flaps.
Tracking dives using the Birdman suit have traversed as much as nine miles of distance.
